I've said this about other cars before. But who cares - I think this is the ugliest "car" I have ever seen!!

But you know what? It’s awesome. This thing is rear wheel drive, mid engined, and there’s center seating (not that there’s room to put a seat anywhere else) so it’s clearly a McLaren F1. Made between 79 and 82 in Minnesota, it’s packing a 14-16 horsepower single cylinder motor, OR a 4 horsepower electric unit.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

The best part is that this thing was owned by the minuteman national park in Concord, MA (which is a couple towns over from me) so it’s wearing park service green paint. I don’t see myself messing around with electric cars anytime soon, but if I was so inclined I bet this thing would be HILARIOUS with an updated electric motor and a bank of laptop batteries. Just don’t get in an accident... these weigh 700-900 LBS.

This interior is kinda horrifying but there are some neat touches - it looks like the rear windows pop out!

Kinja'd!!!

Note the lack of proper mirrors - they’re on the back of the wheel arches. And they’re tiny.

You’d better carry around a spare bulb in case your *one* light goes out

I want one. It’s the hipster proto-Elio.

I think there’s something wrong with me when my first thought is “I wonder what Lemons would say about this car...”

Awesome. I was just in one of those last weekend. Most of them were sold with the gas engine and as you can see they have a high center of gravity, so be careful on the turns. Despite that, they’re really fun. A 70's-80's version of the old Messerschmitt Kabinenroller.

Astonishingly, they delivered about 700 of them to actual, paying customers, most of whom were not the federal government. Which is probably about 699 more cars than Elio will actually put in consumers hands.
